Interested in getting involved with Mask Bloc DC? We are currently accepting new member applications on a limited basis.
What We Do
We are a mutual aid group distributing free masks in the DC metro area. The COVID-19 pandemic never ended. We're making sure we get high-quality masks and tests into the hands of our community members, at no charge.
We are onboarding new members to help redistribute masks and tests. New members can expect to manage inventory, respond to requests, table at values-aligned events, and/or fulfill drop-offs and pick-ups.
Optional mask bloc member activities include:
- Coordinating and discussing ongoing bloc projects at weekly meetings
- Sourcing masks and tests from direct outreach to companies and collaborative auction bids with other blocs
- Creating educational content for social media and community outreach
- Developing and maintaining the technical systems that keep the bloc running
Who We're Looking For
We are looking for community-minded folks who embody our Statement of Values. We are prioritizing onboarding new members who:
- Reflect the communities we serve: Black, Indigenous, Latiné, and People of the Global Majority
- Practice COVID safety, anti-racism, abolition, anti-zionism, anti-colonialism, harm reduction, disability justice
- Challenge anti-Blackness, misogynoir, transmisogynoir, transmisogyny, transphobia, queerphobia, homophobia, and xenophobia
- Kill the cops in their heads
- Can support distribution in the District, especially in SE and SW
- Have access to reliable transportation
- Can commit 4-8 hours a month to bloc work
